This probably does not qualify as sci-fi, but I'm still going to post it on here. It's long for most short stories, but I'm using it as part of a novel. I'm working on the second part at the time, so I'll be posting that as well once it's finished. Anyways, this story is a fan fiction of the Walking Dead, but I'm using my own setting, my own characters, everything. I hope you enjoy!
Chapter 1 Kelly woke up one morning, rubbing his eyes. He went out to the kitchen for a drink of water. As he was about to turn on the faucet, he looked outside and saw someone covered in blood from head to toe. “What the hell is going on?” he wondered out loud. He grabbed his favorite aluminum bat and walked outside, asking the man what’s wrong. The man just stared at him with his mouth open. Kelly was grossed out with what he saw, the man was missing a tongue! “Sir, are you okay? What happened here?” he asked the man. The man, who looked like a living corpse, lunged at him. Kelly swung his bat, hitting the thing in the face, knocking it down. He hit it again, splattering its brains all over the road. He ran into his four bedroom house and woke up his roommates, Conlin, Zach, and David. “Guys, you won’t believe what happened!” he yelled. “Calm down dude” Zach said. “Tell us what happened, but stay calm”. “I can’t stay calm, I just killed someone!” Kelly yelled. “What!?!?” “Yeah! I went outside because I saw someone covered in blood, and I brought my bat just in case. He looked at me and he was missing a tongue. The asshole tried biting me, so I used my bat and killed him!” he said. The four guys looked outside a window and saw a bunch of guys who looked dead chasing someone. There was another group in front of the person who tackled him and the monsters began to tear him apart and eat his body. “Shit, this is just like night of the living dead!” Conlin said. “David, don’t you have an axe in your room? And Conlin, I know you have a bow” Zach said. “Yeah, I’ll grab it!” David ran to his room and grabbed his axe, while Conlin grabbed his bow. Zach grabbed a bowie knife and his crossbow, loaded a bolt into it, and started packing canned food and water into a bag. He also threw in some supplies like duct tape, extra knives and some extra bolts for his crossbow. The four men left the house. “There are corpses over here!” Conlin yelled, shooting an arrow into the crowd of bodies. He saw one drop, and David ran right into the crowd with his axe, instantaneously dropping two more. “You gotta hit them in the head!” Zach yelled, as he killed one of the creatures with his crossbow. Kelly beat one down with his bat, killing it. “Jeez, I thought Grand Rapids was bad enough without freaking corpses!” David said. Courtney was walking down the street when she seen a terrifying sight. There was a man on top of a woman, eating her! The man looked up at Courtney, and it started walking towards her. “Oh God, someone help!” Courtney yelled. She was being chased by what looked like a dead body, but it couldn’t be, because it was walking. She didn’t know what to do, because she didn’t have any weapons on her. As Courtney was running, she seen a big stick on the ground. She picked the stick up and hit the body with it, knocking it down to the ground. After the creature had fallen, she took the stick and stabbed it in the head, killing it. After killing the body, Courtney ran to her house, scared of being attacked again. When she got inside her house she tried turning on the lights, but nothing happened. “Shit, the power must be out!” she said. Courtney ran to her room and grabbed a box from under her bed. She pulled a six shooter out of the box and a box of shells. She went outside and started running towards the McDonald’s by her house. She got to McDonald’s without any problems, but when she got there, she saw a group of bodies. She counted about fifteen of them, and when she was done counting, they had discovered her and started walking towards her. She fired into the group of creatures and turned to run, but there was another group right behind her. All of a sudden she saw four guys on motorcycles coming closer. One guy had an axe and he cut a body’s head off. The man yelled something, but from this distance Courtney couldn’t hear it. She had newfound courage and started firing into the group of bodies. The men on the motorcycles had cut them down, one by one, until they were all gone. A man came out of McDonald’s. He looked around as if to check if it was clear. “Holy shit, that was awesome!” he yelled. “The coast is clear!” he yelled into the building. After the man yelled, a group of ten people came outside and ran in the opposite direction. The four men pulled over by Courtney and asked if she was okay. She said yes, and noticed a really bad smell. “What’s that awful smell?” she asked. “Oh, that’s this guy. He got really scared and shit himself” one of the guys pointed at his friend. “You two quit dicking around!” said a tall guy with a bow. He looked at Courtney and said “you will NOT believe the shit we went through, literally”. Chapter 2 “Guys, I know where we are! Dollar general is right around the corner!” Zach yelled. The four guys started jogging towards the small store and went inside to look for more supplies. “Who the hell are you?” asked an unknown voice. There was a group of five men in the store, all holding guns. “We’re just some survivors looking for supplies” Kelly said. “Well, I want that crossbow!” the leader of the group said to Zach. “Give me the damn bow or die!” he said. “How about no?” David replied. “Then you’re all gonna die!” “Zach, duck!” David yelled. Zach heard David yell and ducked, knowing his friend had something in mind. David threw his axe and it stuck into the face of the leader. Conlin shot one of the men in the chest with an arrow, killing him instantly. Zach shot another one in the throat with his crossbow. Blood spurting everywhere, the man died a slow, painful death. David grabbed his axe and cut another man’s head off, while the fifth man ran away. A corpse outside of the store tackled him over and bit a big chunk out of his head. The men robbed the dead bodies of their guns and ammo and grabbed some food from the shelves of the store. They walked outside and found two motorcycles. Zach and David got on one, while Conlin and Kelly climbed onto the other one. “Let’s go to my old house and see if my parents are still there, I’m sure my dad is protecting my mom!” Zach said. Zach lead the way to his old house, and they found his mom and dad’s cars outside of the house. He ran into the house, only to find a blood stained couch along with two dead corpses and a hand. He checked around the rest of the house, but found nothing but blood and a broken window with some innards on the shards of glass. “No!” Zach yelled, crying. He dropped to his knees, screaming his lungs out. He couldn’t believe his parents were gone, possibly dead, or even worse, corpses. Just then Conlin walked into the room. “Hey Zach, I have some good news. The gun cabinet is empty. And the blood and intestines by the broken window aren’t from your parents. There’s a dead corpse outside of the window. For now, they’re okay” he said. Zach stood up, relieved to hear this. “Alright guys, we should go” he said. The four men went outside and got back onto the motorcycles and drove away. After a couple hours of driving, the men ended up in a town called Waterford. While driving, the bikes ran out of gas, and the four friends were on foot. They were being chased by a group of corpses that was too big to fight. Zach was in the back, making sure nobody fell behind. Just when it looked like there would be no way out, Kelly noticed something. “There’s a manhole!” Kelly said. “Everyone get in!” Zach yelled. “I’ll cover you!”. Zach pulled his pistol out and started firing into the crowd of corpses, killing a few. He looked back and saw that he was the last one not in the manhole, so he climbed down and closed the lid above him. He dropped down to the ground and holstered his pistol. He turned around and started walking in the opposite direction with his three friends. “Wow, there’s no corpses down here” David said. As soon as he said it, a big group came around the corner and started walking towards them. “You jinxed us asshole!” Zach yelled. He pulled out his knife and started rushing towards the corpses with David and Kelly. Kelly slipped and fell, dropping his bat and hitting his head, knocking himself unconscious. “Shit!” Zach yelled. He and David grabbed Kelly and carried him away from the corpses. Conlin shot one of the monsters in the head, and by the time that one was on the ground, he had already killed two more. He shot another one in the throat, knocking it to the ground, and he finished it off by shooting it in the head. He saw two coming around the corner and shot an arrow into the head of the first one. The arrow went through the first one and right into the head of the second one, killing them both. “Shit Conlin, I didn’t know you were that good” David said as Conlin went around collecting his arrows. “Eh, just didn’t wanna see your sorry asses die” he laughed. “What’d I miss?” Kelly asked, finally waking up. “Long story short, Conlin saved us” Zach said. “Look, there’s a ladder over there!” David yelled. They ran over to the ladder and started climbing up, Zach in the lead. He opened the cover of the sewer and climbed out. What he saw filled him with a newfound hope. “Guys, more bikes!” he yelled. He ran over to the motorcycle shop and checked the gas on one. “It’s half full!” he exclaimed. Zach’s friends jogged towards him and they all climbed onto bikes. “Let’s go!” Zach yelled. They pulled out of the parking lot and rode down the street. Zach noticed a girl in between two groups of corpses covering her head, ready to die. “Guys, we gotta help her!” he yelled. The four men rode over to the fast food restaurant that she was at, and David pulled out his axe, taking the head off of a corpse. “Hey Kelly, you may be a baseball star, but you ain’t got shit on me! Home run baby!” he yelled. Zach and Conlin pulled out the handguns they had stolen from the raiders at Dollar General and started shooting into the crowd of corpses. Kelly rode by one and hit it in the head with his bat, killing it with a single swing. David hit another one in the head with his axe, but it got stuck. “Shit!” he yelled. The woman starting shooting at the corpses, and in just a couple minutes they were all dead. David retrieved his axe and the men saw a man look out of the restaurant. He yelled something, but they couldn’t hear him from there, and a group of about ten people came outside and started running in the other direction. “Assholes. She was out there, about to freaking die, and all they could do was sit in there and hide. Wow” Zach said. Him and his friends rode the motorcycles up to the woman they had helped and got off. Zach could not stop looking at her. She was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. “Are you okay?” Kelly asked, interrupting Zach’s thoughts. “Yeah, but what’s that awful smell?” she asked. Zach pointed at David and said “Oh, that’s this guy. He got really scared and shit himself”. “You two quit dicking around!” Conlin yelled. Then he turned to the woman and said “You will NOT believe the shit we went through, literally”, and told her everything that happened. Chapter 3 “I found a car boys, the gas is full!” Courtney yelled to the men. She climbed into the car and started hotwiring it while the men jogged over to her. By the time everyone got in, Zach in the front, Conlin, David and Kelly in the back, she had the car ready to go. “Where are we going?” Zach asked. Courtney explained that there was a weapons museum not far away, fifteen minutes driving. She started driving and the car made their progress much faster, but after about ten minutes they came across a huge group of corpses. Courtney swerved to avoid them but hit a speed bump at about fifty miles an hour, causing the car to tilt onto two wheels. The car hit a fence on the side of the road and it flipped over onto its top. “Shit! Everyone get out!” Conlin yelled. Everybody rushed out of the car, meeting a group of corpses. Courtney pulled out her gun but Zach grabbed her arm. “Don’t use that, it will just attract more” he said. “How do you know?” Courtney asked. Conlin looked at her and said “Haven’t you ever seen a zombie movie?”. Zach killed one of the corpses with his crossbow, while David charged with his weapon at the ready, beating them down. It only took a minute to get rid of the corpses, and Zach noticed that Kelly was still in the car. “I think my leg is broke!” he said. Zach and Conlin pulled him out of the car and started carrying him, walking with the rest of the group. “Guys, I’m sorry that I’m slowing you down, just leave me” he said. “No way I’m gonna fucking leave you behind!” Zach said. Just then they heard a scuffling noise behind them. The group looked and seen about twenty corpses, walking towards them. “Shit!” Kelly yelled. Everyone started running, but Zach and Conlin couldn’t move fast enough while carrying Kelly. “Guys, just leave me!” he shouted. “You’re not gonna make it. I don’t want you to die because of me. Just leave me here with a gun, and I’ll hold them off the best I can. Please, I want you guys to be safe” he said. “Zach, he’s right” Conlin said. Zach and Conlin set him down, tears in their eyes, and gave him a handgun and some ammo. Zach and Conlin gave their friend a pat on the back and so before they started running in the other direction. They heard gunshots, a scream, and one final gunshot. Conlin looked at Zach who was crying, and neither of them said a word. They caught up with the group and looked behind them to check for the corpses. “David, you watch the sides. Conlin, watch the front. I’ll watch the back” Zach ordered as the group started slowing down, no corpses in sight. Everyone started walking at a fast pace without any problems for most of the time, until Zach noticed some corpses. “Guys, corpses” he exclaimed. He readied his crossbow, but just as he did, a giant group came from behind the ones he had first seen. “That’s too many to fight, run!!!” Zach yelled. Everyone started sprinting, Courtney in the lead. “It’s the museum!” she yelled, pointing up ahead. That made everyone run even harder. They all jumped the fence and climbed up, jumping down on the other side. “We should be safe behind this fence” Zach said. Another man climbed up the fence as well, jumping down beside them. “What’s your name?” Zach asked him, weapon at the ready. “I’m John” he replied. “You mind if I join you?” he asked. “I don’t know” Zach replied. “Remember Zach, there’s strength in numbers” David said. Zach nodded, thinking. “Alright, let’s get inside!” Conlin said. Everyone went into the museum and started looking around. “No one’s been here before, it isn’t raided!” Zach shouted excitedly. “I think we should all get weapons” John said. “Already found mine!” Courtney yelled. She was holding a katana with a green blade, taking a few practice swings with the blade. “Hey, you’re not bad!” David said. “Better than your stupid ass with that axe” she replied, laughing. Zach grabbed a barbaric looking trident with three blades on the end of it. “Hey Zach, think this is good?” David asked, holding up a double bladed battle axe. “Hell yeah!” he replied. John found a wicked looking scimitar with chinese writing on it. “This is so cool!” he yelled. Conlin grabbed a knight’s sword, a bow and a quiver with more arrows in it. “Guys, we need to set up camp here” Zach explained. “It hasn’t been raided yet, there’s plenty of weapons if we need any, and there are many stores close by. Once a day we can send out two people to scavenge for food and other supplies, and the others will work on building up our defenses with the supplies the scavengers find.” “I want first scavenge so I can use this sword!” Courtney yelled. “I’ll go with” David said. “Are you sure you want to scavenge today? After we just got here?” Zach asked. Courtney nodded and Zach sighed, hoping they’d be okay. “Fine, just be careful. You saw how many corpses there were out there” he replied. David and Courtney went outside and climbed the fence, noticing that the corpses weren’t there anymore. After dropping to the ground they started walking to Kroger, about a half hour walk. “There’s some corpses” David said. Courtney pulled out her katana before David could say or do anything else and she ran to the corpses, killing all of them in just a few seconds. “How the hell are you so good?” David asked. “I fenced for years” Courtney replied, smiling. They kept walking towards Kroger with no other issues. When they finally made it to the store, there were three corpses there. David ran up to them and took the heads off of two with one swing and cut the last one completely in half with one vertical swing. “What did you say about me and my axe?” he asked Courtney, laughing. David and Courtney walked into the store to find piles and piles of food. “Holy shit, no one’s touched this place, it’s like heaven!” David yelled. He and Courtney took their bags off of their backs and started loading them with canned goods, unopened bags of chips, bottles of water and soda. “This store has enough food to last us for years!” Courtney said excitedly. When the two survivors filled their bags with food they went outside and started jogging back to the museum in high spirits. They made it back without coming across any corpses and climbed the fence, jumping down on the other side. “Zach, look what we found!” David yelled, handing the bag to his friend. Zach opened the bag and yelled with excitement, grabbing and looking into Courtney’s bag. “There’s more too!” David yelled. He explained to Zach what they had found and told him how to get there. Everyone was in high hopes that day, and they all sat down and had cold beans for dinner, with a side of Lays potato chips and shared a bottle of Coca-Cola. Chapter 4 Three months later, Conlin and Zach were walking towards the museum from Kroger after a successful trip. “What was that?” Zach asked, sounding scared. “I didn’t see anything” Conlin replied. Zach saw it again, something moving really fast in the shadows. “There it is again!” he said, pointing to where he was looking. A man came out of the shadows aiming a small, single barrel shotgun at them, holding a rusty shovel. He was wearing a thin sweatshirt with his hood up, and he had a bag on his back filled with fireworks. “Oh, you guys aren’t dead” he said. He took his hood down and immediately Zach recognized him. “Travis!” he said excitedly “Travis, we have a great group! You can come with us dude! Our base is easily defendable and we have some good people. We’d love to have you” he said, smiling at his old friend. “I’m sorry bro, but I have a group myself, we have a great fort, I’m just out looking for food” he said. Conlin handed him a bag and said “There’s a store just a little ways ahead, it hasn’t been touched by looters, and there’s plenty of food there. We get our stuff from there, but there’s still a lot left”. “Thanks man!” Travis said, shaking Conlin’s hand. He jogged up to the store and David and Conlin started walking back towards their base. They made it back to their base without any problems besides a few corpses outside of the base, which Conlin easily killed. They went inside the base and John realized they were missing a bag. “What happened to the other bag?” he asked. “We gave it to an old friend of mine, and we showed him the way to the store” Zach replied. “What the hell?” John yelled, getting in his face. “You shouldn’t have done that!” he said. David got in between the two of them, shoving John back. “Stop it! It’s an old friend, it’s okay!” he said. “What makes it okay?” John asked. David explained how there’s enough food to last for a long time, and that the survivors should all be helping each other. “Fine, do whatever the hell you idiots want” John said, walking away. Zach and Conlin brought their food over to the stash and sorted through it, putting everything where it’s supposed to go. They put their bags by the stash and returned to the living area of the base to talk to David. “Who was the friend?” he asked Zach. “You’re not going to believe it. It’s Travis dude!” Zach replied excitedly. “I can’t believe he’s okay!” David said. Conlin, Zach and David were talking amongst themselves while Courtney sat by herself, looking at Zach. She wanted to be with him so bad. “No, this isn’t the time for a relationship” she thought to herself. No matter how bad she wanted him, she had to control herself. There was already enough trouble already without a relationship. Courtney stood up and walked outside for a breath of “fresh” air and to clear her mind. Zach jumped out of bed holding his trident, awoken from a nightmare. He couldn’t believe that the dream wasn’t real, the image of a group of corpses inside the museum was so real that it was like they were actually there. “Zach, what’s wrong?” David asked groggily. “Nothing, just a nightmare” Zach replied. He put his trident down and stood up, rubbing his eyes. “Who should go to Kroger today?” he asked. “I think John and I should go, he hasn’t done a scavenge yet” David replied. “I think we should go now before it gets too hot, you know how it is this time of year” he said. David got up and woke John, handing him his scimitar. “We’re going on a scavenge” he said. John stood up and started walking with David. They went outside and climbed over the fence, jumping down on the other side. Zach watched as his allies disappeared from sight. He went to wake up Conlin and Courtney, but found them already up and working on the barricade in the back. Zach grabbed a hammer and some nails and went to work with them. “David and John went on the scavenge today” he told his friends. “John? I don’t trust him” Courtney said. “Me either” Zach replied to her. Everyone was silent for a few minutes while working on the barricade, but then Zach broke down in tears and stood up, walking in the opposite direction. Courtney ran after him to see what was wrong. “Please, I just need a minute” Zach said, crying. Courtney hugged him, asking what was wrong. “I still can’t believe Kelly is gone” he replied. “He was one of my best friends, and now he’s dead”. “He died to save us” Courtney said. She kissed Zach on the cheek and wiped his tears away. She pulled him back towards the barricade and gave him a hammer and some nails. Zach went to work on the barricade with the other two again and nobody said a word. Chapter 5 “John, watch out!” David yelled. John turned around fast, chopping the head off of a corpse with his blade. He ran over to David, who was surrounded by corpses, to help him. David swung his axe and killed three of the creatures at once, John dropped two of them with a couple swings of his sword. He threw it at another corpse, hitting it in the head, killing it. “That’s it for these ones” he said, grabbing his weapon. John and David jogged the rest of the way to the store and filled their bags with food. “Let’s get out of here” David said. David and John jogged out of the store and heard a little girl scream. The men turned and saw a family of three running from a group of corpses. The father tripped and was swarmed by corpses, screaming. The mother got bit on the shoulder, but shook herself free from the creature. She carried her daughter in a building, slamming the door shut in the face of a hungry looking corpse. “That was Annabelle!” David said worriedly. “I used to babysit her! She needs help” he yelled. “David, it’s too late!” John said. He turned around to find David running in the opposite direction. “What a shithead” he said. When David made it to the doorway of the building Annabelle was in, he noticed Travis running towards it too. “I’ll distract these corpses, you go save the girl!” he said. David tried the door, but it was locked. He took his axe and swung at the door with no success. He swung again and this time the door fell to the ground. David sprinted inside and saw a trail of blood going up a flight up stairs. He started running quickly up the stairs, following the blood trail to the top floor. The trail led to a hotel room and David broke the door down with his axe. Annabelle’s mother noticed David and sighed with relief. “Can you please take her?” she asked him. “Yeah, I can. But there isn’t any way to save you” David replied. She begged him to put her out of her misery and he said he would. David ripped part of his shirt off and tied it around the ten year old girl’s eyes. He took his axe and decapitated her mother quickly and painlessly. Travis saw David running outside with the little girl. “Your friend left” he said. “There’s too many corpses here for us to fight, let’s go to my base. It’s close by” he told David. The old friends started jogging and made it to Travis’ base in just a few minutes. “Who’s the leader here?” David asked. Travis explained that there was no leader, it was just a group of friends. Everyone shared what they had with each other and everybody looked out for each other. “John, where’s David?” Zach asked. “I had to leave him, there were too many corpses. He went to help a little girl. I wish I could have stayed, but then we both would have been dead” John answered. “We need to find him!” Zach exclaimed. “I’m not going, I just got back” John said. Zach flipped him off and went to get Courtney and Conlin who agreed to go with him. “Wait, but one of us should stay behind and watch John. I don’t trust him here alone” Conlin said. Courtney volunteered to stay behind while Zach and Conlin went to find David. The two friends climbed the fence and started jogging towards Kroger. “Look, it’s a survivor’s camp! We should check it out, maybe David is there!” Zach said. Conlin followed him into the camp and they found David sitting next to Travis, holding a little girl. “David! We were worried about you!” Zach yelled to him. He ran over to David and asked him who the little girl was. “Her name is Annabelle, but I call her Belle” he replied. “I used to babysit her. Her family, well, they.. they didn’t make it” David said. “Well, we gotta go back to the base” Conlin told him. Just then they heard a commotion. “Creatures!” someone yelled. Zach looked and seen a group of corpses, maybe twenty or more, inside the camp. Nobody was prepared for it and there were already a lot of survivors who became a meal for the corpses. “We have to go, now!” Zach yelled. The group started running away from the corpses, only to be cut off by another group of them. Zach and David killed them quickly and the group started running again, towards the museum. They finally made it safely, no corpses following them. Zach led everyone into the base and found John there, sleeping. “You’re an asshole!” Zach yelled, kicking him. “What the hell did I do?” John asked, holding his side. “First you left my friend to die, then you refuse to go help him. We all almost died you douche!” Zach replied angrily. John got up and shoved Zach away from him. He noticed David and Annabelle. “Get that damn girl out of here! She could be infected!” he yelled. “I will not” David said. “Fine, I’ll get rid of her myself” John said, pulling out his sword. Zach grabbed his trident and pointed it right at John. “Back off” he said. “If you so much as get close to this girl again, I will cut your freaking head off” David hissed. John put his sword down and sighed in defeat. “John, this has gone too far. We need to do something about it” Conlin said. “What, kill me?” John asked. Zach thought to himself. “No. We don’t kill other people unless we need to. We will banish you” he said. Chapter 6 Zach gave John a food bag and told him to fill it with food and supplies. David came in and looked at Zach. “I’ll watch him” he told Zach. His friend nodded and walked out of the room. As John was busy grabbing things that he needed, David slipped something into his bag. Zach walked back in the room after John yelled to him that he was done and pointed his trident at him. “Walk” he said. John started moving forward, Zach following behind, weapon at the ready. David followed the two out to the fence and Zach prodded John in the back with his trident. “Climb the fence” he told him. John climbed over the fence and dropped down on the other side. “Now walk away. If you ever come back, we will kill you” Zach said angrily. John started walking away with his head down. David pulled a cell phone out of his pocket and started dialing on it. “Who the hell are you calling?” Zach asked. All of a sudden he heard a loud ringing sound coming from outside of the museum. He looked to see John frantically trying to find the source of the noise. He pulled the bag off his back and got ready to throw it, but it was already too late. “We can’t just kill people!” Zach yelled to David. “Conlin, we gotta help him!” he yelled. “Zach, it’s too late” replied Conlin. As Zach looked towards John, he couldn’t find him, all he could see was a bunch of corpses. He wondered what happened, and realized that John was in the middle of those monsters. Zach sighed sadly and pushed past David, going back inside. Zach awoke the next morning. He had dreamt about Courtney again. God, how he loved her. But with what was happening in the world, a relationship wouldn’t be good. He got his crossbow and trident ready to scavenge for food, and woke up the group to find someone to help him. Anyone but Courtney, he just wanted to get his mind off of her. When Zach asked, everyone else had something to do. Conlin and Travis had to work on the barriers and David had to watch Belle. The only person to volunteer was Courtney, of course. Zach took it though, as he couldn’t go alone. Courtney grabbed her katana and followed Zach to the fence. They climbed over the fence and saw a corpse in the distance. Zach pulled out his crossbow and shot it, loading another bolt afterwards. Courtney heard a groan behind them and turned around swinging her sword, taking the head off of a corpse. Conlin and Travis were building the barriers out of wooden planks when they heard a crash outside. Conlin sprinted towards the front and saw a truck outside the museum. The truck had crashed through a section of the fence, knocking it to the ground. John climbed out with three other men, all armed with swords. “What the hell?” he said. He ran back in and called to David and Travis. “John is back!” he yelled. “What? How!?” David asked. Conlin started to reply, but there was no time. John and his group barged through the door, weapons at the ready. Conlin pulled out his sword and ran towards the first guy he saw and swung his sword at him. The man dodged and elbowed Conlin in the face, breaking his nose. He fell to the ground, bleeding from his face. Travis grabbed a sword from a shelf and started fighting one of the other men. Travis kneed him in the stomach and stabbed him in the throat, killing him. Conlin jumped back to his feet only to get hit again, this time with the handle of the sword. He was able to keep his footing though, and tackled his enemy to the ground, stabbing him with an arrow. David and the last companion were both weaponless and duking it out. “Zach, hold up. I have to tell you something” Courtney said. Zach stopped, looking at her. “No, I need to tell you something” he said. He grabbed her hands and told her how he really felt about her, how he always thought about her, and how he loved her. Courtney smiled and told Zach that she loved him too, and gave him a kiss. Zach and Courtney walked to the store together, happy to get rid of the burden that had been bothering them for so long, and loaded their bags up. They walked back towards the base only to see their fence being taken down by a large truck and a big group of corpses walking towards it. “Courtney, I have a plan,” Zach said. He told her what his plan was and what she needed to do. Courtney ran into action and Zach readied his weapon, hoping the plan would work. David was still fighting his opponent when he remembered Annabelle. He froze for a second, giving his opponent an opportunity to knock him back against the shelf. Reaching for something to use as a weapon, he felt a stone handle. He picked it up and realized it was a hammer. He hit his enemy in the head with it, knocking him to the ground. He crouched over his enemy and spilled his brains onto the floor with another blow. He then ran into the storage room to see John holding Annabelle, his blade pressed against her neck. “Let her go you asshole!” he yelled. “No need to get feisty” John said with a smirk. “Put your weapon down and let me take the girl, and you won’t have to watch her die. If you don’t listen to me, I’ll slit her throat right in front of you” he said. David looked at Annabelle who was crying, and looked at John, who was smiling. “Fine. I’ll put my weapon down” David said. “But, before you go, at least tell me how you escaped those corpses” he said, trying to stall. John agreed and David dropped the stone hammer. John starting telling David how he survived and managed to get back. John had just climbed over the fence and began walking across the parking lot of the museum when a loud ringing noise came from his bag. He removed the pack and started frantically searching for the sound, so he could get rid of the noise. It was already too late, as he was surrounded by corpses. Looking down, John realised he was standing on top of a manhole cover. Dropping to his knees, he got the lid open and scrambled down the ladder, replacing the cover above him. John dropped to the ground of the sewer and started walking. He hoped it would be a safe place, but he grabbed his sword just in case. He came across a few corpses but he easily killed them. After a few miles of walking, John came across a ladder and climbed up. When he emerged into fresh air, he took a few deep breaths, happy to finally be out of that shithole. Somewhere in the middle of John’s story, there was an explosion outside and the entire museum shook. John fell to his knees, dropping both Belle and his weapon. David rushed into action, grabbing the little girl and ushering her into the other room. John got up and aimed a handgun at David. “I told you to let me kill her” he said, a crazed smile on his face. “But you didn’t listen, did you? I even gave you a second chance. But again, you didn’t listen. Now I have to kill you and all your friends!!” John yelled. David stared at John in shock, and a gunshot rang through the museum. Courtney ran over to the big truck, opening the gas tank. She jogged a few hundred yards away and pulled out her sidearm. She fired a shot but missed the gas tank to the truck. Courtney tried again, but it was another failed attempt. She had to reload her clip before taking another shot. Taking a deep breath, she squeezed the trigger of her gun and hit the gas tank, sending the vehicle into flames. The corpses all turned at once and started walking towards the noise. Zach readied his trident and shield, stabbing at the corpses. Courtney ran over to help him, swinging her katana at the monsters, sending corpse limbs flying in every direction. Zach and Courtney pushed the monsters back only to run into another group, this one too large for just two people. They started running towards the base to warn the others. John was lying on the floor with a bullet wound in his stomach. Coughing up blood, he looked at the pistol in David’s hand. He must have pulled the trigger at the last possible moment. David turned around and grabbed something, turning back to face John. “I thought you were going to cut my head off” he said, breathing slowly. “I did. And I’m a man of my word” David replied. He swung his axe at John’s neck, killing him. Chapter 7 “Everybody! Quickly pack up your bags and go! Corpses are about to be on us!!” Zach yelled. He looked around and wondered what happened. “John came” Conlin replied, as if he read Zach’s mind. Zach decided it wasn’t a good time to question anything so he just nodded and started packing bags with food, Courtney hot on his heels. David was already in the storage room packing bags when Conlin and Travis appeared. Zach tossed each of them a bag and told them to exit from the back. They followed his orders and started jogging towards the back exit. Zach told Courtney to leave too, and she disappeared running towards the exit. David and Zach finished packing the last two bags when they heard the corpses inside. Zach turned around and stabbed one of them in the head, killing it. “Go!” Zach yelled to David. He turned around and followed his friend towards the back exit. David took a turn before the exit though, and started running in a different direction. “I gotta get Annabelle first!” he yelled. Zach nodded and started running behind David. “I’m going to help you then!” he said. David stopped in another room and grabbed Annabelle, turning around and sprinting out. Zach pulled out his handgun and followed. “I’ll cover you” he said to his friend. Zach shot a corpse in the head before it could reach David, and David pulled out his pistol and killed another one. The two friends made it to the exit and slammed the door shut. “Grab that dumpster over there!” David shouted. Conlin and Travis ran over to the dumpster and pushed it over to the door. They pushed it against the door in order to keep it shut. “Shit! Where are we gonna go now??” yelled David. “The museum is filled with corpses, we don’t have a car, we don’t have anywhere else, what now?” he continued. Zach told him to calm down, that he’d come up with a plan. “We’ll go to kroger!” Courtney exclaimed. “Great idea!” Conlin replied. The group started off towards the store, while David grabbed Belle and jogged closely behind. Kelly was limping through the streets by himself, all alone. His friends must have thought he was dead. He would too, considering what happened. As he was sitting there firing at the corpses, he saw another group of men. The corpses noticed them too, and started chasing them down the road. One of the men fell and a corpse bit into his leg. The man let out a blood curdling scream. Not wanting to turn, he shot himself in the head. While part of the huge mass of corpses fed on him, the rest chased after the other group. Standing up, Kelly tested his leg. It was broken for sure, but he could find something to use as crutches. He dragged his leg on the ground towards the side of the road and found some sticks. He tore a sleeve off of his shirt and tied a tourniquet around his leg using one of the sticks. Afterwards he grabbed two more sticks and, using them as crutches, started limping away from the nightmare behind him. Confused, Kelly had no idea where he was going, but he was determined to get there. With only two mags left for his pistol, and a small bag of food, Kelly had to find a safe place fast, and hope that his leg would heal in time for him to be competitive enough to raid buildings for food and other supplies. He saw an office building and started hobbling towards it. As soon as he got to the door however, he heard the moaning of corpses. Shaking his head, Kelly turned around and walked away, deciding that all the buildings in that area would be the same. He hobbled on in the same direction, for what felt like hours. Scared he might not find what he needed, Kelly stopped, and stared off in the distance, thinking. He thought he saw something familiar, but didn’t know. Seeing a shiny object off in the distance, Kelly starting hobbling towards it as fast as he could, ignoring the pain in his leg. He managed to sit on the ground and lift up the manhole cover, climbing down into the sewer he and his friends were in earlier, where there would be very few corpses, if any. He had found what he was looking for. Boom! The thunderous sound of a shotgun echoed off of the buildings in Downtown Grand Rapids. “Take that you asshole!” yelled Rob, Zach’s dad. He pumped another shell into his gun and turned around quickly, shooting a corpse in the head. “Go back to hell where you belong!” he yelled. “Rob, I found a car!” yelled his wife, Terry. Rob ran over to his wife and tried opening the door, but it was locked. He hit the butt of his gun on the window, but it wouldn’t break. He tried again, but it still didn’t work. “Robert, look” Terry said worriedly. Rob followed his wife’s gaze, immediately wishing he hadn’t. There was a huge group of corpses stumbling right towards them. He hit the window again, but it wouldn’t break. He pulled a pistol out of his holster and shot the glass, but it didn’t break. “Damn, it’s bullet proof!” he said. “Robert, help!” he heard. He looked towards Terry and there was a corpse holding onto her. It must have got to her before she could get her gun. To Be Continued….

This is my first sci-fi story ever.
“Wow, it’s huge!” I heard someone exclaim. The helicopter we were flying in pulled down closer to the ground, and looming in front of us was a giant mountain with a cave in the side of it. The cave was newly discovered by scientists who were too scared to explore it, so they decided to offer a reward of one million dollars to anybody brave enough to check it out. There were ten of us, and nobody knew what to think. I saw the fear in one woman’s eyes as the scientists on the chopper started handing out primitive weapons, including spears and swords. When the scientists came over to me I picked out a barbaric looking spear with three knives on the end and a knight’s shield with a lion on the front. The helicopter finally touched down, and all of us got out and started heading towards the cave. Immediately people started choosing groups to stick with. “Why don’t we just stick together?”, I asked. A big, tough looking man said “Don’t be a pansy, man, it’s gonna be easy”. After everybody made groups- me being by myself- we went our separate ways into the cave. The very first sight to see in the cave struck terror into my heart, as I saw giant scorpions about the size of a small house. I thought about what to do as a scorpion started heading my way, and I stuck the bladed end of the spear up into the air. As the scorpion moved over me, the blades sliced through its stomach, dumping about a gallon of green blood on me. Even with its stomach wide open and its guts spilling out, the scorpion was still alive, and it turned around and started coming back at me. I ran down a path in the cave, my heart racing as I was trying to escape from the monstrous arachnid. As I was running, I tripped over a rock on the ground and turned around, seeing the monster almost right on top of me. I held up the shield as the big stinger headed right towards my face, and it struck my shield, bouncing off. The creature tried again, but as soon as the stinger struck the shield, I cut it off with my spear. I heard an eerie scream as the stinger fell to the ground and the scorpion tried biting me, but got nothing but a mouth full of blades. After the monster fell to the ground, hopefully dead, I got up and started running in the opposite direction as fast as I could. Turning a corner, I ran into one of the other loners of the group. We both fell over, and he stood up drawing his sword, facing me. It was the big tough guy from outside. “I want that money, and I need to kill you to get it!” he yelled. “No, you don’t need to do this” I said, backing up as he advanced toward me with his big sword. He swung at me and I blocked it with my shield. As his sword struck the shield, I lunged with my spear, aiming at his chest. Even though I missed my mark I still hit him in the arm, causing him to drop his weapon. I sliced through his stomach, spilling his blood all over the floor and he dropped to the ground, dead. Grabbing his sword and sheath, I started walking slowly down the path. I saw a group of three ahead of me, battling a giant fire ant. “Help us!” they yelled to me. I seen two openings in the left wall, one behind the group, and one behind the ant. I ran into the opening and came out behind the ant, bringing down my spear on it as hard as I could. Falling into two pieces, the ant died on the ground, and the three people stood up and started running right away. I did the same, and I heard a scream behind us. I looked behind, but I regretted it, because I saw a human hanging from the stinger of one of the scorpions. The three of us that were left kept running and I saw a woman get in front of me. As she was running, however, she ran right into the stinger of a giant scorpion, then the monster bit off her head. I stabbed it in the face, pulled my spear out, and started running again. As we were running again, the other person pulled out a bow and shot behind him, hitting a scorpion and dropping it dead. We kept running and hit a dead end. We had no choice but to turn around and face the monsters behind us. The other man used his bow and dropped two scorpions almost immediately. He had only one arrow left, and there were three scorpions. He loosed his last arrow, but missed the shot. Immediately I threw my spear, hitting the scorpion he missed, killing it. We both pulled out our swords and charged towards the scorpions. I cut the head off of one and looked over to see my partner without a head. I stabbed his killer in the eye, pulled my spear out of the scorpion I threw it at, and stabbed the monster in the underbelly, dropping it dead. After I killed all the monsters, I decided to retrace my steps and go to the entrance of the cave. I got to the entrance with no trouble, but there was a large group of fire ants feeding on the dead scorpion there. There were two other paths that I missed on my way in. From the middle path came two scorpions, which the fire ants went to attack. I started running towards the entrance, but a huge group of scorpions entered from outside, blocking my path. I tried to lure them away so I could kill them and get out, but I saw knives come in from out of nowhere, hitting the scorpions and killing them where they stood, causing a blockage of the entrance. “No!” I yelled. I turned to see a man with a belt full of knives and he ran over to me. “Oh crap! I didn’t know that was the entrance!”, he said. “Yeah, but I’m sure there’s another one. I came from the path on the right, it’s a dead end. So we’re not going that way. The middle path is blocked by those things”, I said, pointing at the monsters, “so that leaves the left path”. “Well, the middle path is like a maze, and after you get out of the maze it’s a dead end. It took me forever to get back here, so that one’s no good anyways. It’s gotta be the left path” said the other man. We started heading down the left path and we came across a hole. There was no way acrossed it and there weren’t any other openings in the walls. As soon as I was about to go back I heard a terrifying screech, then another one following it. “We need to find a way across” I said. “Look, those look like hand-holds over there! And on this side too! We need to climb down then up the other side, hurry!” I said. I started climbing down slowly, using the handholds, and he followed. The walls were wet and slippery for some reason and the going was slow. We finally reached the bottom and started running towards the other side. We made it to the other side, but we were out of breath, so we decided to take a small break. “So, were you in a group?”, he asked. “No, I was on my own coming in, but I’ve seen four people die. How about you?” I asked. “Yeah, I was in a group of three, and they both died” he said in a distant voice. I counted in my head, and that meant there were four of us left. “Let’s go find the last two” I said. We started climbing fast and made it up the wall in a hurry, determined to find the other explorers. The sight at the top horrified us. We found the others alright, but they were dead. One body was missing a head and an arm, and the other body was nothing but a waist and legs, missing the top half. We couldn’t believe that the others were dead, but there was proof of it right in front of us. “The blood is still wet” the other man said, feeling it. “That means that whatever did this is still around, so we need to have our weapons out”. He took out a short sword and I took out my spear and shield, and we started walking slowly, weapons at the ready. I saw a glare of light and it took me a couple minutes to figure out what it was. “It’s an exit!” I yelled. We started sprinting towards the hole in the wall, but a scorpion, bigger than the rest, jumped down in front of us, blocking the exit. I heard a scream behind us and turned around to see two more scorpions. “I’ll take these two, you take that one!” I shouted over the disturbing scuttling noise made by the giant arachnids. I threw my spear at one of the monsters, but it bounced right off of the head. “They’re armored!” I yelled. I drew my sword and attacked the scorpions, but my attacks were doing nothing. I saw a small patch of skin between the neck and the head and stabbed the sword in there, killing one of the giants. The scorpion dropped dead with a deafening scream. I sliced my sword through the neck of the other scorpion, cutting its head off, and I turned to help my new partner. He wasn’t doing very well, his arm was missing and his eye was swollen shut, but the scorpion was bloodied up as well. I charged at the monster with my sword but I got hit by the tail and I was sent flying backwards. I witnessed the disgusting animal stabbing my partner with its pincher and tearing him in half by opening it. I got up and charged again, and this time I was more successful, cutting the creature’s pincher off. It let out a scream filled with pain and tried to grab me with its other pincher, but I removed that from its body too. I held up my shield as I saw the stinger coming towards me and I cut it off. I grabbed the stinger and stabbed the scorpion in the head with it. “Have a taste of your own medicine!” I yelled at it as the monster writhed on the floor in pain, dying a slow, brutal death. There was pus coming out of the wound, and the monster finally stopped squirming, dead. I climbed over the creature to get out of the cave and found a helicopter outside. I ran to the helicopter and found the pilot and all the soldiers in it. Dead. To be continued.. This is the first couple chapters of my second Sci-Fi story, I'll post my first full one soon!
PROLOGUE The year is 2068, and the Earth is dying. Humans have exhausted most of the remaining fossil fuels in the world. In an effort to survive, the humans have decided to travel to the planet of Zarro, five years of space travel. A group of fifty people were sent to the planet to colonize, and they were supposed to contact those they left behind as soon as the five year journey was made. That was ten years ago… CHAPTER ONE Skylar inhaled deeply, not knowing what to expect when the carrier landed in an hour. He and fifty other people were sent to the planet in order to colonize and give the humans a chance at survival. Rebecca, the female assigned to be Skylar’s mate, sat in the seat next to him. “How ya holding up?” she asked. “I don’t know why the hell I even signed up for this, we don’t even know what we’re getting ourselves into” Skylar replied. “We’re armed with nothing but building tools. What if the planet is home to other creatures, and they don’t want us there?” he wondered aloud, more to himself than Rebecca. Rebecca shook her head and walked off, leaving Skylar alone with his thoughts. “Ladies and gentleman, we have now entered Zarros atmosphere, prepare for landing” a woman’s voice announced through the overhead speakers. Skylar, strapped in with his harness, was prepared for anything to happen. Counting down the remaining half hour, Skylar’s voice caught in his throat as the carrier shook violently, throwing unbuckled passengers everywhere. “There have been some turbulence problems, everyone please stay calm. We’ll figure it out and land safely” announced the voice again. “Oh shut the hell up!” Skylar heard from somewhere in the ship. All of a sudden the ship started rotating, and everyone who wasn’t in their seat was sliding on the ground towards the cockpit. Skylar saw Rebecca sliding down, and he unbuckled to try to catch her. He bent down and reached out his hand, but Rebecca slid right past him, too fast to catch, and Skylar watched in horror as his partner slid right through the cockpit windshield, and out into the planets atmosphere, gone forever. Skylar grabbed at his seat as he started to fall, but his fists caught nothing but air. “I got you!” someone yelled, grabbing Skylar’s arm. Skylar looked up and saw a middle-aged African-American male with corn rows and a black beard, holding onto his wrist. “I can’t hold on forever, try to get in a seat!” the man yelled to him. Skylar jumped from the man’s grasp into the seat next to him, and sat down, hoping the armrests would be enough to keep him from falling through. He grabbed the seat’s harness and buckled it before the armrests could fail to hold his weight. As soon as he strapped in, the ship hit the ground. Oscar, the slightly overweight pilot of the ship, crawled out onto the ground from the front of the cockpit. He walked to the secondary cockpit where Sheila, his co-pilot, worked. He found that the glass at the front wasn’t broken, but there was a blood stain on it. Oscar shook his head and slowly walked away, a scared look on his face. Looking around, Oscar saw nothing but jungle. The jungle was gorgeous, yet extremely deadly. Pilots weren’t supposed to stay on this god forsaken planet, only the volunteers were. Oscar, knowing what was on that planet, along with the Global Government of the Earth, knew that he, and the other survivors of the crash were doomed. Matthew, the Supreme Leader of the GGE, sat in his chair with President Brooks in front of him. Carey Brooks was the first female president of the United States, but it wasn’t like the title she held meant anything anymore. “All I’m saying Supreme Leader, is that the GGE shouldn’t have sent up those people without telling them what was on the planet. They’ll die up there!” Brooks pleaded. Matthew had a look of guilt on his face, but he told the president that it was too late and the decision was already made, there was no way to get them to turn around when there was only a few minutes of their journey left. Brooks, crying, left Matthew to himself. Looking at his computer, the Supreme Leader prayed for the poor, lost souls making the trip to save the race that was too cruel to tell them they were possibly headed to their deaths. Every TV program in the world was interrupted by the incoming GGE broadcast. All of Earth’s citizens were confused and didn’t know what was going, as the Supreme Leader was standing behind a podium in the Council Building. “Ladies and gentleman,” Matthew started, “The GGE has been asked many times why we sent those humans up to the planet of Zarro, even though we knew what kind of danger they were facing. Well, the reason why is because the human race is desperate, as the planet is dying. We don’t have enough time on this planet to make the trip to any other planet, it needs to be Zarro, that’s the most inhabitable planet we can get to the fastest. If the humans we sent succeed, the benefit is far greater than the risk. Now, some of you may not know the dangers that are on that planet, but we are about to..” just then, the broadcast cut off. All the televisions in the world went blank. All the lights turned off, and everything that relied on electricity had stopped working. Nobody knew it yet, but at that point, all of the world’s fossil fuels, the only fuels that the humans could rely on at that point, had just run out. Earth was on its last leg. CHAPTER TWO Skylar woke up with little memory of what happened. How he ended up strapped into a seat dangling diagonally, he had no idea. He tried to undo his harness, but it was to no success. Trying to remember what happened, Skylar realized that he had a knife in his jacket pocket. Reaching in his pocket, he knocked the knife out and watched it fall to the ground. “Shit!” he yelled. Skylar worriedly tugged at the harness, but it wouldn’t come undone. He heard a beeping noise, and knowing what it was, he frantically searched his pockets for anything else that could possibly cut the harness. Just as he was about to give up searching, he heard movement from below him. “Hey! Looking for this”? a voice asked. Skylar looked down and saw the African-American man. Reaching down, Skylar grabbed the knife from him and started sawing at the harness straps. He succeeded, and dropped down to the ground. “My name’s Jayden, we need to get out before the ships self-destruct process finishes” the man said. He led the way to the cockpit, where he knew they’d be able to escape. “Help!” someone yelled, from somewhere in the ship. “I’ll help them, you grab as many tools from the cabinet as you can” Jayden said. He left Skylar in the cockpit, jogging towards the cry for help. Skylar grabbed a couple bags from the cabinet and filled them up with tools like knives, hammers, saws and nails. Strapping one bag to his back, he grabbed the other one and climbed out of the cockpit. He started running towards the beautiful jungle in front of him, hoping Jayden could get out in time. While running, Skylar heard a boom and was thrown to the ground by a fiery rush of air. “Someone tell me why we lost power!” Matthew yelled. He rushed from behind the podium back to his office, hoping his backup generator was still working. Matthew’s question was answered by a dark room. “Dammit!” he yelled. “Sir, we just got a call from the World Fossil Fuel Industry. They told us it’s all out, we have nothing left for our power!” explained Raze, the Special Forces leader. “What? Shit, now we have no choice but to evacuate everyone to Zarro” Matthew replied, with a solemn face. “Raze! Get everyone out of the building and towards the next available carrier port, you got it?” Matthew asked. Raze nodded and ran out of the room. Matthew prayed for the second time that day, only it was for the entire human race. |
